Beard transplantation is the process of taking hair follicles from another area and transplanting them to the beard area in order to correct the gaps in the beard area on the face caused by sparseness, loss or hereditary reasons.
Beard transplantation can be applied to men who experience permanent sparseness in the beard area and want a thicker beard. Additionally, beard transplantation can also help those who have experienced beard loss due to scars, burns, or other reasons.
Beard transplantation is usually performed by the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method. In this procedure, hair follicles are taken one by one from the hairy area behind the nape or beard, called the donor area. Then, the collected hair follicles are transplanted to the beard area with special tools. The method is performed under local anesthesia and the patient feels minimal pain.
Beard transplantation is generally a safe procedure. However, as with every surgical procedure, there are some risks. The most common risks include infection, bleeding, crusting and temporary shedding. When performed by a specialist physician and appropriate precautions are taken, risks are minimized.
